The move means Smith will no longer be able to compete in PGA Tour events, with all members of LIV Golf suspended indefinitely, while the Australian is no longer eligible to represent the International Team at the Presidents Cup this September .
“[Money] it was definitely a factor in making that decision, I’m not going to ignore it or say it wasn’t a reason,” Smith said in an interview with Golf Digest. “It was obviously a business decision for one and an offer I couldn’t ignore.
“The biggest thing for me joining is [LIV’s] The program is really attractive. I’ll be able to spend more time at home in Australia and maybe even do an event down there. I didn’t get to do that and getting that part of my life back was really appealing.”
He added that he loves LIV’s team format and cited a lack of things like “weddings and rugby league matches” in Australia as reasons for making the jump across the board.
