Zaha: One lapse in concentration ruins all the hard work
Wilfried Zaha on BT Sport: “I’m at a loss for words. Just one lapse in concentration … ruins all the hard work. We literally had to keep it tight. Once we took the lead, we just couldn’t defend. “I don’t understand why we’re doing that. If we just keep pushing, I feel like we could have a second and it’s just game over, but in the end we killed ourselves. “Our problem at the moment, which we will correct in due course, is only the last-minute goals. It just throws the whole performance away. Today is not – by far – our best performance, but a game where I feel I have to go with the three points”.

Unbelievable! “Mentality is not easy. We are not City, Liverpool or Chelsea, we are Brentford and that mentality deep within the players is really good. And the aggressive mentality. “Unbelievable magic from Zaha. What a goal. That’s a world-class goal from him. We know he can create this moment. A moment when we fell slightly – boom! Top corner. “But after that, we got it right. We equalized and had two huge chances when we could have taken three points.”
Impressive Zaha reminds fans of his quality ahead of Deadline Day
Sky Sports’ Peter Smith: Thomas Frank described it as “unbelievable magic” and it certainly felt like Wilfried Zaha was the only player on the pitch at Selhurst Park on Tuesday night who could score his first goal. Aaron Hickey was outstanding in the first half, limiting Palace’s talisman and twice blocking his shots on goal. But the right-back only had to give Zaha an inch of space on the edge of the box to be punished on the hour. It was Zaha’s 13th Premier League goal in 2022 and his fourth goal in four appearances this season. No wonder Chelsea and Arsenal have been linked with a late move for him, especially as his contract with Palace expires at the end of the season. Afterwards, Zaha could not hide his disappointment at Brentford’s late equalizer but insisted he was fully focused on Palace, describing the club as a family. Those bonds could be tested in the coming days if there is a major bid – and on current form, Palace’s London rivals may struggle to recruit a more dangerous forward.
Late goals are becoming a habit for Brentford
Sky Sports’ Zinny Boswell: In three of their five Premier League games this season, Brentford have salvaged a point thanks to goals in the last 10 minutes. It has become somewhat of a habit for Thomas Frank’s side. Josh Dasilva at Leicester on the opening weekend (86), Vitaly Janelt against Everton on Saturday (84) and now Yoane Wissa at Crystal Palace (88). Without those three points, they would have dropped to 15th, not ninth. But it’s not something Frank necessarily wants to continue to rely on. “I think from a health point of view, the Man Utd game [winning 4-0] he’s a bit healthier,” Frank said after the 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace. At Selhurst Park on Tuesday, Brentford created their three best chances of the game in the final seven minutes. They were unlucky not to come away with three points, even if they were second best for most of the match. “I would have loved the drama if we had scored to make it 2-1,” Frank said. “But it’s very difficult in the Premier League. We know we have to work so incredibly hard to get every point we can.” There’s a work ethic that runs through Frank’s side that means you can never count them out. Worker bees always have a chance, until the last moment.
Opta Stats: Brentford can’t keep goals away
