HMS Prince of Wales left Portsmouth naval base on Saturday for flight tests with F-35B Lightning jets off the US east coast, but suffered a propeller shaft malfunction off the Isle of Wight. A navy source said one plan being considered was to cancel the voyage entirely and send HMS Queen Elizabeth. This would depend on “other priorities” and what ministers and naval officers considered most important. Engineers were inspecting the aircraft carrier to see if the propeller, one of the two, could be repaired. The ship may have to return to Rosyth
