An Abbotsford man is facing 85 criminal charges after he was arrested Saturday running from a car dealership. Police were called to the dealership in the 3000 block of Douglas Street by an employee who became suspicious when a customer requested more than $50,000 in financing “using what appeared to be a scam.” Victoria Police were at the dealership when the customer returned. The man tried to run away when officers approached to speak with him. He was arrested after a short chase. Officers searching the man found various identification documents. He refused to identify himself and was taken to the cells of Victoria Police Station. They discovered he was wanted on warrants from four police departments in the province. Officers learned that the man is bound by 79 court conditions relating mainly to fraud and theft. He is prohibited from possessing identification documents and from possessing drugs and alcohol. He also had to live in Abbotsford. Officers learned the man was staying at a local hotel using a fake ID and fraudulent credit card. The man was taken into custody on his numerous warrants. He faces a total of 85 recommended charges, including charges of identity theft, procuring and dealing in government documents, fraud over $5,000, obstructing a police officer and 79 violations of various court-ordered conditions.
