Nypd Hunts For Masked Gunman In Brazen Early Morning Killing Of 25 Year Old Near Nyu Dorms

A 25-year-old woman was fatally shot in the head on a street corner near busy Union Square and NYU dormitories in New York’s East Village early Thursday morning, authorities said. Police responding to a 911 call at about 5 a.m. found the victim unconscious with a gunshot wound to the head. EMS responders were called and arrived at the scene, where they pronounced the woman dead. A white, blood-stained sheet was seen covering her body Thursday morning as NYPD detectives spoke to each other at the scene.
The woman, whose name was not immediately released pending notification of her family, was killed at the corner of East 14th Street and Irving Place, officials said. Investigators also said they were also looking for a woman, though they did not immediately provide a description or information about her connection to the crime. It’s the second homicide in New York’s 13th Precinct in two days since Jamal Burton, a 38-year-old East New York man, was stabbed to death near Chelsea. Burton reportedly got into an argument with his killer that escalated into a fight, resulting in the other man stabbing Burton repeatedly in the chest, killing him. While shootings and murders are down slightly, major crime in New York is up 36% over last year. Rapes rose 10 percent, from 892 to 989, and felonies rose 19.5 percent, from 13,086 to 15,640, according to NYPD statistics.
