In a Reddit post that has since garnered hundreds of comments, user KvotheG showed a picture of the innocent “sausage in a bun” for the world to see.
“No one likes to be served a bland sausage. So now this is a hilarious time in my life,” KvotheG told CTV News Toronto.
In addition to the unseasoned “sausage in a bun,” $5.99 plus tax, KvotheG said he also ordered 4 pierogies and a cabbage roll because it’s “very hard to make bad pierogies.”
He said all the options seemed like “safe options” to him at the time.
“I was wrong,” he said.
“The pierogies were not very good… The cabbage roll was musky and not very tasty. Because my sausage and roll had no seasoning, it wasn’t tasty at all, but it was also the best item I ordered.”
Since then, the post has garnered about 386 comments — many of which are funny, including one that reads “some assembly required.”
Food has become one of the biggest draws at the CNE in recent years, with this year’s event featuring items like Krispy Kreme pulled pork sandwiches, flaming hot Cheetos burgers and long tacos, to name a few.
So while it’s unfortunate that the ‘sausage in a bun’ failed to live up to those high standards, KvotheG said the experience has been a teachable moment.
“I learned that apparently this is how a sausage is served in European countries. Sausage in a bun, but it usually comes with other goodies on your plate, like sauerkraut,” he said.
“Maybe I’m not as worldly as I thought I was and I should be more understanding.”
The CNE runs until September 5th
